Pace, finish time, and distance use the same time ÷ distance relationship. Exact for the values entered.

Find pace

Enter distance and finish time to calculate pace per mile, pace per kilometer, mph, and kph.

Find finish time

Enter distance and target pace to calculate the finish time for a race, workout, or treadmill session.

Find distance

Enter duration and target pace to estimate how far you will run at that pace.

Common race finish times

Use the race-distance presets or the finish-time table to compare what the same pace means for 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon distances.

How this calculator works

Formula

Pace = total time / distance. Finish time = distance x pace. Distance = total time / pace.

Best use

Comparing training runs, planning race targets, converting between mile and kilometer pace, and finding finish time from a target pace.

Limitations

The arithmetic is exact for the values entered, but GPS distance, treadmill calibration, and manual time entry can still introduce measurement error.

Example

A 10 km run in 50:00 equals 5:00 per km, about 8:03 per mile, 12.0 kph, or 7.46 mph.

Sources and assumptions

How to use it

  1. Choose whether to find pace, finish time, or distance.
  2. Enter any two known values, such as distance and finish time or distance and target pace.
  3. Use the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon presets when you want a standard race distance.
  4. Use the mile, kilometer, mph, and kph outputs to compare training plans, treadmill settings, and race goals.
  5. Review the common race finish-time table to see what the same pace means across other race distances.

Common mistakes

  • Mixing chip time, moving time, and elapsed time in the same comparison.
  • Using GPS distance from a route with poor signal without checking the actual race distance.
  • Comparing treadmill pace to outdoor pace without accounting for calibration and conditions.

Useful for

  • Set a realistic race target before using the race time predictor.
  • Convert a workout prescribed in miles into kilometer pace.
  • Check whether a tempo run stayed within the intended pace range.
  • Find a finish time from a goal pace or a distance from a planned duration.
  • Compare 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon finish times at the same pace.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate running pace?
Divide total running time by distance. For example, 50 minutes over 10 kilometers is 5 minutes per kilometer.
Is pace per mile different from pace per kilometer?
Yes. Pace per mile is the time needed to run one mile, while pace per kilometer is the time needed to run one kilometer.
Why does my watch pace differ from this calculator?
This calculator uses the exact numbers entered. Watch pace can differ because of GPS smoothing, auto-pause, signal quality, and route measurement.
Can I use this as a finish time calculator?
Yes. Choose the finish-time mode, enter distance and target pace, and the calculator returns the total time for the run or race.
Can I compare common race finish times from one pace?
Yes. After the calculator has a valid pace, it shows estimated finish times for common race distances such as 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon.
Can I calculate distance from pace and time?
Yes. Choose the distance mode, enter the duration and target pace, and the calculator estimates how far that pace covers.
